MiA SIMONSEN: Needle Felting (Location 6)

Needle felting is the art of using barbed needles to sculpt wool roving into an infinite variety of shapes and forms. I started Owl Song Feltery in 2024. Cactus and succulents were my first botanicals of choice, and I have since added mushrooms and other fungi to my feltery. I have always been obsessed with the outdoors and with growing things. I have been an avid gardener for the past 30 years and have also been a florist for the past 6 years. Needle felting allows me to design with botanicals year-round! The entire process, from picking the colors and shape of a project to finding just the right vintage container to showcase the finished form offers me endless variety and reflects the diversity found in nature. I especially appreciate the joy and whimsy “feltanicals” bring to this world. Yes, that’s a word I made up to describe my art!
